Our recent seasonal photo shoot brought about the opportunity for a collaborative project between Icons creative director Matt Weston and renowned stills photographer Jason Pietra.
We chatted to Jason about the shoot
Icon – Jayse, your previous accessories work lists clients like Chanel, Burberry, Prada amongst many more, how is it shooting men’s jewellery in comparison?
JP – It’s all the same to me, obviously we made it more masculine, so the approach was a lot harder and sharper but technically speaking there’s no difference. Matt knew what direction he wanted to take and had a good solid vision – so for me it was more about providing the execution.
Icon – You and our Creative Director Matt have been mates for a few years now, how is it working with him? Is he as pedantic in your studio as he is in our atelier?
JP – I was pretty confident that I knew what Matt wanted, and he understood what I was doing too – so it was really smooth sailing. We communicate on a really straight, direct, level with each other, which makes it a lot easier to understand what we are trying to do.
Icon – You are from Perth, you lived in Sydney then London, now New York and you travel all over the world for your work. What 3 items do you never leave home with out?
JP – My passport, my credit card, and my phone – that’s just the honest truth. I realised don’t even need the phone really thanks to British Airways who left me stranded with no phone and no luggage in Italy (when they were supposed to take me to Croatia!). I had only my passport and my credit card and I realised then that you don’t need anything else to enjoy the world.
